What is the meaning / definition of a Poshtel?
A Poshtel is a portmanteau combining the words posh and hostel. The term refers to upscale/luxury hostels that deliver the style and comfort of boutique hotels, while staying in the price range of hostels.
This type of accommodation is a rising trend, as it fuses the social aspects affiliated to hostels with the comforts related to hotels. As such this accommodation type is extremely suitable in targeting more affluent solo travellers who are wishing to meet & bond with fellow travellers. While the majority of accommodations may still be shared, private rooms are also offered. Though the main facilities are shared to provide the social aspects of hostels. Additionally, the facilities such as restaurants, cafe and bars offered often outperform the ones offered at regular hostels in concern to quality, design and service offered. Thereby they are able to attract the local market as well, driving more business towards the concept.
